Absentee Ballots

Absentee Ballot Requests Now Available

You can use Maine’s online service to request your absentee ballot electronically

Any registered voter may cast an absentee ballot instead of voting in person at a voting place on Election Day, and you don't need to have a specific reason or be unable to vote at the voting place on Election Day to receive an absentee ballot.

Printed ballots are sent out to municipal clerks at least 30 days prior to Election Day. Your ballot will be sent to you via postal mail and must be returned to your municipal clerk by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. You don't need to complete an application if you vote in person at the clerk's office.

State election law now provides that a voter who will be at least 65 years of age by the next election, or who self-identifies as having a disability, may apply for ongoing absentee voter status. Otherwise, a request must be made for each election that you wish to vote early.
