SCAM EMAIL ALERT
Tuesday, December 16, 2025
The Town of New Gloucester is issuing a warning to its residents and local businesses about a fraudulent email scam that has recently come to light.
The scam emails falsely claim to be from the Town of New Gloucester. However, these emails are sent from an email address which is not a legitimate Town of New Gloucester email address.
The fraudulent emails include a fake invoice attachment requesting a wire transfer payment. The scam artists have falsely used the Town's seal and provided incorrect name and contact information. It is crucial to note that the various departments of the Town of New Gloucester would never request payment via wire transfer. These fraudulent emails are designed to appear official, but they have no connection to the Town of New Gloucester.
Do not to respond to the email or provide any payment. You may verify any communications coming from the Town by calling the Town Office (207) 926-4126 or by verifying that the sender has a New Gloucester email address.
If you have sent money or believe you have been scammed, contact the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department.
