Charge:
Implement Strategy 65 of
the New Gloucester Comprehensive Plan by creating an inventory
and assessment of the town’s scenic resources.
Membership:
Seven at-large members, one
non-voting Select Board Liaison, and one staff member.
Description:
Define scenic resources, including points (historic buildings), linear resources (scenic roads), and areas (village centers) with public access.
Systematically identify, visit, photograph, and map notable scenic resources—landscapes, view sheds, and landmarks—as seen from key public locations.
Establish a clear, objective baseline of New Gloucester’s scenic character to inform future land use planning, preservation, and community decisions.
Provide the Planning Board and town committees with essential information to evaluate the scenic impact of proposed developments (e.g., solar farms, wind projects, transmission lines), supporting informed decisions and appropriate visual mitigation when needed
